A new chiller plant was to be located within the existing Toronto Metropolitan University Kerr Hall South building.
Compass was awarded the Construction Management mandate and provided value-added pre-construction services, facilitated early works, extensive abatement, remediation, demolition, as well as construction and installation of the new chiller plant located in the lower ground of a former boiler room.
The existing downtown space consisted of 4 abandoned steam boilers, and an existing chiller plant located in a lower-level mechanical room and tunnel system along Gould Street.
Compass collaborated with the Consultant and Toronto Metropolitan University’s project manager to ensure the chiller room and structural platform were built with excess space to accommodate future requirements. This augmented the existing chiller plant’s capacity.
With demolition of the existing spaces and removal of the existing abandoned equipment, the newly installed chiller plant was operational within Toronto Metropolitan University’s requested timeline.
All subsequent construction and finishes were completed as per schedule.
