The Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade centrally coordinates trade activities in Ontario by working with the business community, key organizations and partner ministries to advance the province’s economic interests around the globe. They support world-class research, commercialization and innovation taking place across Ontario through a range of programs and services like the Ontario Research Fund and Ontario Venture Capital Fund.
To continue to excel with their mandate, a new office environment was required to reflect a more contemporary way of working for ministry employees, partner ministries as well as Ontario companies and their trading partners.
This renovation and interior fit out of their 2 existing floors took place over 2 phases within a partially occupied space. A mix of 70% open office and 30% private offices is supported by 5 large boardrooms, 10 small meeting and multipurpose rooms, a servery on both floors and one main, large servery for staff use. An operable wall on the 3rd floor allows for 2 large meeting rooms to adapt and accommodate 40+ people, requiring structural steel to reinforce the ceiling. Lutron specialty lighting systems were specified for select boardrooms to enhance the presentation experience.
A key design feature on the 4rd floor is a recessed wood façade flowing from the elevator lobby along the ceiling through to the wall behind a custom reception desk. This contemporary element provides a natural line to graphics, logos and key messaging on the monitors behind reception.
The primary construction challenge was ensuring Compass met the original substantial completion date. We received the space 4 weeks later than anticipated but still completed the project as per original schedule.
Our dedicated team and sub-contactor partners collaborated with the BGIS project manager, DIALOG designers as well as the end user to ensure we completed the project on time.
