This complex project required the conversion of an existing conventional industrial space into a Zone-3 radiation laboratory within Candu’s occupied SP3 facility. It is utilized to refurbish and calibrate reactor equipment that has been exposed to radiation.
This radiation laboratory includes multiple working zones, eye wash station, two new fire rated roll-up doors as well as laboratory grade architectural finishes. New mechanical, electrical and life safety systems provide a controlled air pressure zone supporting Candu’s regulated working environments. The system includes a main rooftop air handling unit, one internal cooling fan coil unit and two external specialized exhaust fans. Radiation protection measures also include a system of sensors and componentry which have all been integrated into main building systems.
The scope of work also included breakout room office areas, change room/locker room, washrooms, storage room, and meeting rooms.
